CULT: new roots on bloom stalk

While gathering nearly ripe seed pods this morning, one stalk broke off below the base, taking the bulbous base of the stalk (the round seedling "rhizome") with it. I was surprised to see a new yellow tipped white root growing out of the bottom of the "stalk".

Have any of you seen this before? Very strange looking. I'm used to seeing old mother rhizomes put on new roots (and 2nd generation increases), but never saw roots forming at the base of a stalk before. The stalk was still green and healthy, but no leaves on it.

Just for fun, I planted this green "onion" in Miracle Gro. Will let you know what happens.

Yellow seedling from IMM, CSONG & TREASURED, maiden bloom this year.

Still very dry here, but it did rain 1/4 inch over the last 24 hrs. A real "soaker" ;-(
