Linda -- I just lined out this year's seedlings last week -- delayed a month or more by rain. I have planted almost this late once before, and they did fine. I water them with a sprinkler until they puddle (30 - 45 minutes, depending on bed size) every three days, if it doesn't rain, until September. I plant the "really tiny ones" too. Sometimes they make it and sometimes larger ones fail. -- Griff

For the first time in years at this time of year, soil moisture is good here in the humid jungle, so I've been lining out some of the small spring germinants. Some of these had been transferred to bigger pots late in the spring and are big enough that they will probably do fine. But some are still quite tiny (totally neglected in 4 inch germination pots since beginning of bloom season). 4 leaves, less than 4 inches tall, weak root system. Unknown whether tiny size is due to weak genes or neglect.Any of you in climates where it can be in the 90s and not much rain but high humidity from July thru Sept have any experience lining out small seedlings this time of year?I've lined them out in June before without much problem, but not quite this late and usually haven't tried to plant the really tiny ones. Full sun, slightly western exposure.I have covered them with half rounds of wire fencing that will be a frame for burlap/shade cloth if necessary, and will use some chip mulch on the surface, plus should be able to hand water these if it stops raining for the summer, but would appreciate hearing other experience.Thanks.
