Re: CULT: summer rot (was lining out)

It's been hard to watch these big, beautiful seedlings rot out, but past experience has taught me that if they survive and live to bloom, they will rot again when the weather is just wrong for them. So I just try to look at the stronger ones and enjoy the selection opportunity....

;-(

I apologize for attributing this kind of hot, humid, rainy weather "summer" rot exclusively to summer dry selected cultivar contributed genes in these seedlings. The summer rot susceptible seedlings also show up in crosses with both parents from summer wet and hot origins.

Those dratted Mediterranean ancestral genes lurk everywhere, just waiting for the right opportunity.....

<Linda -- I had the worst seige of rot this year that I have ever experienced... But I don't think the rain itself was the main problem. My raised beds ensure good drainage. I think it was the lack of sunlight....Griff Zone 7 along the tidal Potomac near Mount Vernon, in Virginia>
