Salut Betty, the plastic cups are so handy, they have saved so many crosses during the drought we've had here this spring! I had to water almost everyday, still, almost 1000 pods are ripening (again) ! I am glad i had so many pods last year, because out of them i only got 4000 seedlings (many pots had only a few germinated seeds, even though some gave me more than 20) so next spring will be as exciting as this one. I had many seedlings from 'normal' tet, crossed with Craig's and Fisher's tet MTBs, and the results are very exciting because i get IBs that have fertile pollen, which accelerates the pace of crosses to get F2 (most regular IBs from TB X SDB crosses have sterile pollen, and even if they can have pods, the process is only one way and it is slow), and some of the best ones have had their pollen spread on almost everything i could think of! Here, we are far from the coast (120km) and there is hardly any wind. But when there it rains with a bit of wind, i don't use the plastic cups, i use little sandwich plastic bags that i put over the cross, and i make a knot underneath. The day after i take them off, which is quick enough not to induce rot, and the pollen had time to get down to where it matters... Do you have much wind at your location?
