Like Linda I have to spend time looking the pedigrees up and taking them to my data base that I created in Lotus....yes the old, old program. It works for me still so have not bothered to change from it to something else. I would also love to see the pedigree program be very handy. But it would be a huge undertaking for sure. Not sure about Smart Draw...since I had not study on this problem. I do not know how many would use the information but I find it very valuable. We need to figure out some way to keep Mike Lowe's work on the historics. Indeed we may need a major computer nerd to help us find a program. It appears that the Daffodil society had someone write the program especially for their platform. I wonder what platform they are using? Maybe the secret to their success is indeed that platform. I would love to see pedigrees in the Iris Encyclopedia. Perhaps I am thinking too far ahead in that we still have cultivars to enter. But I look at what the Daffodil Society does and drool. They can present a tree going backward or the tree of progeny going forward, and where they have images those appear in the tree also. A magnificent job. > > Only just a couple of weeks ago Mike Lowe and I were discussing how to get the many pedigrees he has worked up for historics into the wiki. Unfortunately, as yet, I do not have a clear route as to how to integrate these programs. I wish there was some computer nerd I could go to and say this is what I want, how can you get me there? I contacted the Daffodil Society and they told me they wrote their programs to fit their platform and they would not be transferable. > > It is still a dream! I just looked at some videos this morning for a new $500 program called Smart Draw. It looks like it could do what I want but probably not within the Encyclopedia. There are makeshift possibilities but so far I have not figured out how to do this with the elegance I would like. > > > ----- Original Message ----- > I agree. > Francelle Edwards > > -----Original Message----- > From: owner-iris@hort.net [o*@hort.net] On Behalf Of Linda > Mann > Sent: Sunday, July 15, 2012 10:16 AM > To: iris@hort.net > Subject: [iris] AIS: CAT: my wish list > > ...I wish pedigrees for all the current intros were available somewhere so I > wouldn't have to buy catalogs.
