There is a list on davesgarden.com produced by Brighton Park Iris where people have reported what they still grow. Granted, it is only a list of those who responded to the request, but it is a start. If I found a picture or had reasonable belief that that a recent looking internet picture matched the decription I included that as well. It's a start and we can ammended it, adding and subtracting.

There is also a list on irisparadise.com (a german website) I haven't even touched yet with some names that aren't in the AIS Registry.

>Having a list of irises that are extant would be very good. I am not sure how one would know this. The Encyclopedia is trying to be very complete. It is a history as well as a working list. Certainly a list of just those that are still around wopuld be very useful, but I assume would be continualy changing as some are lost and others discovered. The emcyclopedia's goal is to be an encyclopedia. Not a abridged version. It hopefully will serve many purposes. Certainly any list that is focused on a particular goal will be faster at doing that one thing. I wish you luck.

>>It would be possible to create pages for every historic Iris inside the Historic Iris web but you would have to enter every one as a new page. That seems unreasonable, since you are essentially asking us to double all our work with the exception of irises of the last 30 years. Actually because there are about 45,000 they would have to be split into more than 5 webs just as we have had to split the tall-bearded irises into five webs because a web only works well when it has under 10,000 pages. But what would be the point?. Getting a list of 45,000 irises does not seem useful. It is almost like saying you want a list of all irises.
