No Subject

Good Afternoon Everyone!

I am very new to growing irises.  Last week I subscribed to the AIS publication
which I look forward to getting soon.  I am also enjoying being a part of this
"list". But for those of us who are very new to iries could someone please give
the definitions of some of the abbreviations you use in your e-mail information
(i.e. TB's etc.)  Also, I am waiting to receive 23 bearded irises which I have
ordered through the mail.  Am going to create a whole new garden for these and
would like input on the best way to prepare the soil and what it should
include.  We have fairly sandy soil here (we're located on the lake).  I have
never had our soil tested for ph etc. but feel from what I am reading on this
list that this is very important.  Is there a kit to buy which would help me
test this myself or should I send it to an outside lab?  What should the ph be
for irises?  Do most bearded iris bloom the summer after they are planted?
