A fellow irisarian and garden judge of all sorts of plants, Maria Gerbracht,
suggested a rule of thumb for planting, thus: If it blooms before the fourth
of July, replant in fall. If it blooms after the 4th, plant in spring.

Buffalo NY is approximately zone 5b, with lake effect snow in winter.
