Margie... I have never had a problem transplanting trillium.... I just dig up
the entire rhizome (? bulb? tuber?) when they begin to go dormant (like
now), and put it where I want it... watering for a few days.
My trillium are in soil amended with compost... dappled to pretty deep shade
(but they do get more sun in the spring). My ph is on the acid side since I
grow a large number of beardless irises. Trillium need the same kind of
culture that hostas and ferns need... deep, moist soil... should never get
too dry.
Hope this is helpful.
