Yes, unless you get them in swarms. I live in the hills west of St. Helens,
Oregon, and every autumn the last four years we've experienced swarms of lady
bugs for a couple of days, then throughout the winter groups of the bugs work
their way into the house where it's warm. I think they hibernate in the
shake roof of our A-frame house. When I find them, I try to capture them and
store them in the refrigerator in fruit jars for release in the spring, but
sometimes it gets overwhelming and my husband gets out the vacuum cleaner, he
says they dive into his coffee in the morning. I have to admit, though, we
rarely have aphid problems in our iris. Having all these "ladies" about, I
did some research and found that we have five different varieties of lady bug
staying at our "bug and breadfast," including the black Japanese variety with
two red dots (they're my favorite). Wish they didn't have such a funky
smell, though. Guess that's why birds don't favor them.
