First, I want to apologize for not signing my "Fringetree saga" I was so
interested in looking through my Dirr again, I forgot it.
Second, the various ways of protecting irises from the sunheat, reminded me
of an experience I had some years ago when we were going to be hosting the
regional .
I had some war-surplus parachutes on hand to make slips and blouses for my
girls (in those days, you learned all kinds of ways to econoomize if you
were in the academic field) - and I had what turned out to be not -such -a
-brilliant idea. -- to cover as much of the iris garden with a parachute,
tying it to trees, clothespoles, etc. -- You're right! The next day turned
out to be VERY windy and it was billowing alarmingly - I sent out an SOS to
friends and neighbors, especially tall ones! It took strength and stamina to
subdue the unruly floating cloud above us before my whole garden took off
like Mary Poppins! Whew! Rosalie in Baltimore where we are undergoing
about the l9th day over 90* (that's the nearest I can find for a degree mark)
and still no rain. The old, the you, and the irises are suffering!
