Wild Animals,etc...

Hi, everybody.

I recently had an experience with a wild animal, a bat to be exact. And
since this is the time of year that many such occurences happen, I'd
like to tell you some of the valuable information I learned.

First: ALL animals are protected under State Law. If they are not
protected under State Law, then they are protected under Federal Law.
What this means is: it is a CRIME to take in and care for anything but a
sparrow or pigeon.
Here in Texas, the organization that takes care of ALL wild animals
"found" is WildCare. I met the "leader" of their organization. She was
very nice, and handled the bat without worry. She explained that
American bats very rarely can break your skin when they bite you, and,
furthermore, if a BAT had rabies, it would be too paralized to bite
you. So...

2. DO NOT FEED ANY WILD ANIMAL COW'S MILK. Goat's milk, kitty's milk,
puppy's milk. Not Cow's milk.

Just thought I'd let you know, I'd hate to see any criminals on the
Iris-l.

Rusty.

PS~ due to personal reasons, I have not been able to answer any posts
from this weekend, and will not be back online at least until Friday. If
then. The only reason I am online now is that I have "too many"
messages.
