By "self" beard I meant that the beard is all one color, solid rather tha=

patterned. It may or may not match the color of the rest of the flower. =
But I do agree that solid, contrasting beards are eye-catching!!!
Other patterns include:
Graduated -- blending smoothly from one color in the heart of the flower =
to
another at the tip of the beard.
Mixed -- two different colors of beard hairs, each individual hair a soli=
d
color, but with the two colors intermingled apparently at random.
Layered -- each hair having two or more colors, all in the same pattern s=
o
that when the beard is viewed from the side it looks like a parfait.
Double -- "normal" beard flanked by secondary beard in contrasting color.=
Composite -- more than one pattern, like a mixture than includes layered
hairs.
So much for trying to keep it simple.....
