Re: HYB: Punnett Square - petal width

Is much known about the inheritance of petal width? Is it a simple
dominant/recessive thing or is it controlled by a whole suite of
unrelated (on different chromosomes? loci?)(I apologize for my lack of
attention to homework) genes?

I am especially interested in this because most of the "truly tough"
irises seem to all be older ones with strappy falls. While I don't like
rigid, horizontal falls, I do like wide ones with good substance and
more of a waterfall form. If I cross strappy flowers with wide petalled
ones, can I do a Punnett square for petal width on the basis of...??

Ditto for horizontal versus waterfall shape.

I guess I'll be finding out on my own if I keep playing pollen dauber,
but it would be nice to dream and scheme with more knowlege about what
the possibilities are.
