Sorry to say that the "Vesper Iris" is an iris no more. It was moved to
the genus Pardanthopsis and is called P. DICHOTOMA. The term Vesper
Iris is still used however. It has butterfly blossoms that are short
lived but freely given on stems 30 inches. Bloom continues to early
autumn, when, yielding a great crop of seed, the plant usually dies of
exhaustion. Seedlings are easy, so that the loss of plants need not be
mourned.
I grew Dichotoma for a couple of years and indeed it did die out, but it
did not seed either. I enjoyed it when I had it and may get more
seeds. Quite unique!
