OT: BIO-Linda Doffek

From: <JEM300@aol.com>

Hi Listers,

I had been a member of the iris-l list since about April. I noticed as we
were coming onto the iris-talk list some of the subscribers have been doing a
bio. Since I'm sitting here in front of the "box" anyway I thought I would
write one.

My name is Linda Doffek, I'm 36, married, no kids, 2 Shetland Sheepdogs, and 6
Zebra finches. I live in Southeastern Wisconsin, in West Bend. Other
interests besides irises (imagine that!) are collecting fantasy figurines,
going to the Renaissance Faire, daylilies, computer adventure games, and lots
of "this and that".

I just joined AIS this past January, and have been a member of SSI for about a
year and a half. My local society is Wisconsin Iris Society of which I am
also a member. I entered my first show last year and did pretty well, thank
you! I owe it all to my mother who has been involved in iris for almost 20
years, I believe. She has been an invaluable source of information (and
irises!) to me.

I made my very first iris crosses this year. I made two SDB crosses and they
both took! How about that? 100% the first try!

Also, attended my first AIS convention this year. Loved it! I was in total
"sensory overload" seeing all those great gardens and flowers.

Regarding my start in irises, as I said previously, my mom grew them and I
thought
they were "okay" but they didn't really "grab me". I remember one she was
growing that I was really crazy about years ago....Margarita (Schreiner's
1968). In fact, since this was the first one that I paid ANY attention to, I
ordered it this year so I can grow it and remember. I can hardly wait to see
that beautiful blue amoena in bloom in my garden.

So, a few years ago when I got a house I bought some Siberian irises from a
local garden center. I acquired Ruffled Velvet, White Swirl (which they were
calling Snow Queen), and Dragonfly(which they had labelled Caesar's Brother).
I have slightly
acidic soil and am a watering fiend so needless to say they did great. My mom
saw them and said "Those are really nice, you should enter them in a show" Oh
well, you all know the rest of the story.......................

(Okay, now quit snoring everyone!!) :)
