ADMIN: The Art of Archiving

From: John I Jones <jijones@ix.netcom.com>

I thought I would give you all an update on the status of our archives.

First: Onelist maintains an archive of the daily digests for iris-talk. We
missed the first couple of days, but have every thing since Monday, June 29th.
However Onelist does not provide much of a search engine for the archived
messages, and it is not very useful.

Second: Because I thought we needed a better search capability and continuity
with the very valuable base of information in the Iris-L archives, with Tom's
permission and with the help of Chris Lindsey (who owns the archive server we
used for Iris-L) iris-talk messages are now being added to the existing Iris-L
archives. Additionally, through some very serious magic, Chris took a file of
iris-talk messages that had accumulated prior to setting up the automated
entry process, and integrated them into the archive as well. So we now have as
complete an archive of messages as I think can be developed. The archives
include:

All the original Iris-L messages,
All the messages sent out through the manual Iris-l process, and
All the iris-talk messages from its inception.

The URL for the archive is still the same as it was for Iris-L, to wit:

http://www.mallorn.com/lists/iris-l/

I do not believe we will change this. If you have an opinion here please mail
me privately at: jijones@ix.netcom.com

We will change the title on the page to reflect the combined nature of the
archives.
