Re: Historic iris: EVOLUTION

From: "William Soine" <pjsoine@vcu.org>

I have dug my plant of EVOLUTION this week. It is a large, vigorous plant,
with
very dark purple-based foliage. Is this appropriate for a Cayeux iris from the
30's? I didn't take a picture, but my recollection is that it was a smokey
purple. I read that it should be yellow. Should EVOLUTION have purple based
foliage?
I have another plant of EVOLUTION from another source, growing in another
plot.
It is indeed yellow, but very modern, flaring and ruffled. I am sure that it is
not a 30's iris. I remember thinking that when the PBF plant bloomed it looked
more like a Cayeus iris.
Any help or suggestions?
