if it's going to spell certain doom for them. Does anyone outside of
the Pacific Northwest grow these successfully??
I've no idea what your climate is like Dennis, but I was very fearful of
growing these little guys here, and they have well and truly proved me
wrong. I grew mine on a warm windowsill, in jiffypots, one seed per pot.
When they reached 1/2" I transferred the pot to a larger pot of
specially made up soil. My soil consists of 1/3 peat moss, 1/3 soil, 1/3
sand. I also mixed in Camellia food, and pulverized oak leaves. The
plants in pots are very healthy, but so are the very few that grew from
seed planted directly into the garden!
Growing in pots allows you to control the soil, and also move them
around to suitable locations.
As Vicki has a lot of seed, my advice is to give them a go. These are
truly lovely little iris.
