I guess I've heard this story with several variations on the actual plant
concerned many times over the past 5-10 years. Perhaps Custom Watch are
happy to see it circulate in one form or another every few years just to
keep us all aware of the importance of strict quartantine regulations here.
We had a travelling caravan set up by Custom Watch at an agricultural field
day here recently with examples of the lengths people will go to in an
attempt to get prohibited stuff in to the country. As horticulturists
ourselves we know what the cost to Australian agriculture would be.
Travelling between Victoria and South Australia there is a roadblock where
car glovebox and boots( trunks in the US ) are checked for fruit,
vegetables, grapevine cuttings, soils other than comercial potting mix and
any plant of the chrysanthemum family.
Thank you Paul for clarifying the correct procedure for bringing in seed.
Cheerio.
