Pollen Ponder

From: "David Sidwell, USU Dept. of Theatre Arts" <dsidwell@cc.usu.edu>

Hello,

I have a few questions about pollen that I'm sure you experts can help me
with. I'm wondering how long pollen can last after being removed from the
iris before it is used to pollenate another iris. I realize that
scientists are still recovering pollen from prehistoric times, but I still
wonder if the pollen can still do its stuff after being removed for some
time.

A similar question: Has anyone experienced using an iris as a "stud?" I
think it may be advantageous to be able to use pollen from someone's award
winning iris without having to purchase that iris. So when a friend of
mine in Montana has a recent wonderful iris that I don't have, but still
wuld like to use as a pollinator, is it possible for her to send me pollen
from her plant?
