Fellow Iris Talkers,
How Embarrassing!! I get on Iris Talk to do my lurking and Chad is defaming
me for my bidding technique. I guess it's time for me to get out of the iris
bed and introduce myself, if for no other reason than to defend myself. I
promise I will send in a bio soon.
The heat must have gotten to me during the Clara B. Rees Auction. I'm not
usually so confrontational, but last year I lost a rhizome of Tom Johnson that
I was supposed to be growing as a door prize for the Westbay Iris Society. I
still feel bad when I think about it, so I was very determined to win. This
particular rhizome of Tom Johnson is a virtual forest (the club member that
grew it has virgin soil). There are five increases and six buttons on the
mother rhizome. If I can't get this one to grow I will get rid of all my
irises and devote myself to those little stone plant succulents. Or maybe
weeds, this year I had a bumper crop of those.
Speaking of auctions. On Saturday I was at the Westbay Iris Society Auction.
I was bidding on something and couldn't figure out why the auctioneer kept
raising the price. I turned my head to the left and right and no one else had
their hand up. I looked behind me and there was John Jones bidding against
me. It's a good thing I turned around. Two years ago, in his beginner's
exuberance, John was Mr. Deep Pockets at our auction.
Thanks for the good advice you all have been dispensing.
