AR: 3/4-breds in Ohio

From: Francesca R Thoolen <IRISGIRL@compuserve.com>

FOR DENNIS: I realize that the mid-west get harsher winters than the San
Francisco Bay Area, however I do occasionally get 16 deg F. not cold as the
mid west. I remember an iris friend from West Virginia who used to have
trouble with heaving of irises in general due to freezing. Another grew
irises in Gurnee, Ill. near Chicago and there it does get cold. He would
cover his irises as he did all of his plants for the winter, I think it was
the usual branches, hay, whatever. When they were uncovered in the spring
in general they were o.k. You know that Henry Danielson, now deceased, grew
in Chicago. His widow, Luella, now in Texas, grows arils and arilbreds,
both 2/4, 3/4 and 2/3 ABs. You may want to write to her. Her address: P.O.
Box 5416, El Paso, TX. She may be able to help you.-FRT.
