When I lived in USDA Zone 5/6 Lexington, KY, LADY FRIEND was one of
my best Irises. It always had great branching and was a very reliable
bloomer. In 1990, it won Best Specimen of Show at the Bluegrass Iris
Society Show that year. I saw no signs of cold tenderness. I grew it in
the open, which may have been better for it because growth was delayed
accordingly.
I did not bring any of it with me because I did not think it would
grow here. But, if I here of Robert Turley or Patrick in New Orleans
having luck with it...
