Hi again,
Just a FYI re the article in Better Homes and Gardens about Ken & Sue Kremer's
Amberway Gardens in St. Louis, MO. After reading some of the postings
regarding the pictures of iris being planted, I had to go buy a mag to see for
myself and was equally surprised at the "dormant iris rhizome" used in the
example. As these were in the same article as the Kremer's I sent a note
along with some of the postings from iris-talk to Jim Loveland (mentioned in
my previous post today) in St. Louis as he knows the Kremer's. I also had the
opportunity to visit their lovely garden as they were on the garden tour for
the 1997 Reg 18 Spring Convention hosted by the Kirkwood Iris Society. If you
are ever in their area, I would highly recommend a visit. They have a
facinating combination of terraced beds growing in sunlight as well as wooded
slopes (trees limbs trimmed off up to about 25' ), a small waterfall and pond,
complete with koi and ducks, along with many other perennials. A very serene
site in the midst of a suburb. Anyway....Jim responded that he had talked
with the Kremer's tonite and the pictures of the dried up rhisomes were *not*
from their garden and they had no idea where they came from. Just wanted to
clear up any confusion this may have caused.
All the best,
Carolyn Needham
