Thanks for all the ideas about getting rid of my 'coon friends--we have tried live traps--for a week, then none, then for another week--one coon is too smart and tuther is too fat--weighs about 30 pounds and has been in the yard for over five years but not doing the damage until this year-so think it is the young one-so far, have caught three neighborhood cats using peanut butter--at least the cats are no longer a problem!
My son is staying for the summer in a trailor beside the house with his 'cat' hound-so we get to hear a hound baying quite often--at about 2:00 a.m.--not appreciated. The coon does not come into the yard the nights we leave the dog loose--just reeks havoc with Dahlia and Iris plants on my terraces (I live on a corner--with a hill like a San Francisco hill, so have several terraces with Iris and Dahlias on them--)
Cannot shoot a gun within the city--they annexed us a couple years ago--keep asking my son to sit up all night and shoot it with his bow and arrow--he gets Elk and Moose that way--but says he doesn't want to sit up all night on the chance it might visit our yard-- Already have a couple mean cats--who run for the house and come and hide under the covers when the coon is near--
Really like the idea of the chocolate laxative--twill try it and let you know how it works! Carryl in Western Montana--where I had ordered 21 Iris from Tom Burseen for $100.00-(Space age collection plus others) and the box came in today with 21 extra rhizomes--huge-healthy looking ones with lots of small shoots on them--listing price of $274.00 and his do well in our weather!
