Ice Cream Treat is putting energy into producing seed pods, so will not
produce as many increses (or as large increases).
Rz's vary in size in the same clump (as you will see if you examine a
large clump of iris). They also vary from cultivar to cultivar. Some
cv's produce long narrow rz's others are short and fat. (like people!)
Even in the same garden, and under the same apparent conditions you may
find a differece on performance. I have had the same cultivar perform
differently in different positions - one developed a good root system
and the other was blown about and took longer to establish. You will
certainly get variation in performance of different cultivars. To give
you an example, I planted a rz of Aura Light and a rz of Heather Blush,
in similar circumstances 18 months ago. I have two large clumps (54 rz
in all) of Aura light. Heather blush has two small increase. Add to this
the fact that Aura light produced 2 seed pods last spring!
Hope this answers some of your questions.
