Why should it be any surprise that a red-white-and-blue Iris is from France?
First, it's their colors too (tho I can't remember who got them first,
revolutionary France or us) and second, Frenchmen like Lafayette and
L'Enfant were key to the success of our own revolution. They put up their
gold, their expertise and their lives - I won't grudge them the donation of
an iris!
