RE: SPEC: I. missouriensis -clay requirement


There isn't much clay at all where I have them growing here (The soil is 
poor and hard packed), but near Odessa, WA it seems to be about 1/4 clay, 
1/2 coarse sand, and 1/4 undetermined plant residue (I wouldn't go so far 
as to call it humus!)

The addition of silica ash from Mt. St. Helens a few years ago seems to 
have increased the water retention a bit and with an end to the drought 
there, the plants love it.
