Regarding Rodney Barton's long period of bloom...it might be due to the
fact that Rodney grows a wide variety of iris types, including many varied
species. Growing Iris unguicularis will often produce bloom in the depth
of winter...mine started this year on Dec. 6th and bloomed periodically
till Feb. In Feb. the bulbous I. danfordii commenced bloom, followed in a
few days by the I. reticulata, another bulbous iris. Then there is a
slight break, followed by I. cristata.
So, it goes on and on. My last flower closed three days ago (a Japanese).
That is one of the great wonders of the Iris genus...it is so multifaceted.
