Hello Folks,
Have any of you tried germinating sooner rather than later on the
iris seeds? I've read Sharon McAllister's post in the archives on
enhanced germination. The latest Newsletter of the Aril Society
International gives further instructions. But I'm still not exactly
clear. After the seeds have been soaked, it sounded like McAlester
put them directly in the refrigerator after planting. But the ASI
Newsletter makes it sound as if they left them in warm temps for
about four weeks then put them in the refrigerator. I'm planning on
using plastic butter dishes with holes punched in the lids for air
circulation using perlite for the planting medium. Also, I wondered
about those paper towels in the ASI Newsletter. I couldn't quite
visualize exactly how that was being done. Were the seeds in the
folded paper towels? That is what I have been assuming. If I use
perlite, I should just cover them with perlite and skip the paper towel
shouldn't I?
Any input from the more experienced will be welcome.
