Or they could be wooly adelgids, which I'm now fighting: small pyramidal
white bugs with a tuft of wooly wing-edge hanging out their backsides
(they've forgotten to tuck in their shirttails), the bugs being about 1/4
the size of a ladybug or four times as big as a large aphid.  Adelgids leap
dramatically when touched or sprayed, though Safer will get 'em. They
especially love hosta bloomstalks, though I also find them on iris leaves.
