Re: TB (when/how do I dig up bulbs)

Dear Sylvia -
I find the best way to save extra rhizomes is in pots. I mix up Peters or other
good quality potting soil with extra Perlite for drainage and humus to keep the
cost down and supply organic matter.
Before potting cut off the roots of your rhizome and stick them in the soil.
Leave them in partial shade over the winter so they won't cook in the sun. I
rarely find it necessary to water more that once if there is any rain at all. It
takes two weeks for the new roots to sprout, and by spring they will be coiled at
the bottom of the pot, necessitating some poking with a fork to free them up.
They will be eager to go and in most cases will bloom the first year.
