since this subject is one that we have really given a lot of thought to and
talked about a lot.
We have had some really splendid and long discussions of iris companions of
all kinds, ranging from roses to sempervivums, and it would be really hard
for any of us to distill that all down into a post or two.
How's about this: Let's all visit the Archives and read those threads again!
Here is how. Go to: http://www.mallorn.com/lists/iris-talk/
Then select Search.
When the Search page comes up put 'companion' in as a search term, increase
the number of finds allowed to the max, click one of the years, leave the
months option at all months, and hit search. Repeat for each year to see all
the stuff. I just did a preliminary search and to start off I can refer you
to interesting discussions in 5/97, 7/97, 8/98, 1/99, and 3/99. When you find
a pocket of good stuff, just hope over to the Thread Archives for that month,
and read the whole discussion. If you are interested in knowing about a
particular plant, ask about that one, too. Cosmos and columbines are popular
and got some attention as I recall. Every so often we talk about daylilies,
too.
By the way, notice that I have changed the subject tag and line here so that
it reflects the new tack this thread has taken. Some folks put all talk about
non-iris plants in the OT slot, even if they are growing them with irises,
but to me an iris companion question is an iris culture question, so I'm
using CULT.
