Anner & Gang:
Relative to beardless, I can report from my Arkansas (zone 7) garden that
2000 was a great year for Louisiana irises. We had tremendous bloom, and
it lasted a good long time.
Outstanding in my garden were Louisianas STARLIGHT STARBRIGHT, FELICIANA
HILLS, JERI (as usual!), CAJUN COOKERY, MARIE CAILLET, DURAL WHITE
BUTTERFLY, and LITTLE ROCK SKIES. Also, CLOWN ABOUT.
I like Little Rock Skies because of its pretty blue color, but even moreso
because it stays in one place in the garden! It quickly makes a nice
contained clump. Clown About was so robust, and the flower is an unusual
combination of colors...lots of burgundy with light yellow. It just kept
producing one bloom stalk after another.
Maybe this will get the discussion rolling.

P.S. My favorite Japanese this year was PEACOCK DANCE, a spectacular
3-fall variety. SPRINGTIME SNOW bloomed BEFORE our local show this year!
It is the earliest Japanese I know of.
