Dear Clem,
     I don't know if anyone answered you about replanting irises. I don't use 
Preen, but I have a friend who grows more varieties than I , and he uses 
Preen.
     I use 0-20-20 fertilizer if i can find it, otherwise I use 
tripple-superphosphate in the Fall along with Alfalfa pellets for minute 
nutrients, & compost or  manure. In the Spring, I use a little Nitrogen, like 
10-10-10.
