Tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum; Nicotiana chinensis; Nicotiana tabacum var.
macrophylla) from cigarettes, cigars, pipe tobacco, and chewing tobacco
is a host for viruses which may be very harmful to iris and other
plants. Iris suffer such symptoms as leaf striping, stunting, flower
breaking, and the premature death of plants (C.J. Asjes, 1986; J.
Hammond, 1987. In: Iris severe mosaic potyvirus, Plant Viruses Online:
Descriptions and Lists from the VIDE Database

Other plants which are reported to be insusceptible and suceptible hosts
for the mosaic viruses harmful to Iris are: Nicotiana, Freesia,
Chenopodium, Crocus, Iris, and Belamcanda.
