Hi,
I bought several UNKNOWNS from eBay auctions recently, including
the "?UNK-Juniata?" (haven't gotten that one yet).
I've been telling iris sellers on eBay, about the HIPS website,
and to #$&*%&*((*& NOT ship bearded iris rhizomes, wrapped up
in soaking wet paper towels covered with plastic tape!!
I also have told them (including person with Juniata(?)) that
id'ing a historic iris, usually requires more than comparing it
to a picture.
Since I got a (verified by getting an id'd one from Superstition
and holding them bloom to bloom) SINDJHKA from the back yard of
a house a friend bought from older couple, I know that unknowns
can be exciting. (Or not!).
Laetitia and I think that maybe all old iris, exist SOMEwhere
in some little old lady's backyard....Now, just to find them!
