No one asked for it, but here it is--my opinion. I subscribe to this
principle: Make love (iris love) not war! Put another way, "Can't we all
just get along?" I don't understand the hostility towards John. I hope it's
lack of understanding. He facilitates the need that over 700 people have to
talk, read, and learn about irises. Thank you, John.

Windchime and others, thank you for sharing the ways in which you use the
subject tags. It would be helpful (MHO) if several people that use and need
the subject tags would elaborate. Perhaps, some that do not currently use
the tags would find useful purpose to them.

When I first joined the list, early in 1999, I found the tags difficult.
Being a law abiding citizen from birth (strict father) I followed the rules
or tried too. Although I tried to remember, as often as not, I messed up. On
occasion, John would remind me. My face would turn red and I would work
harder at watching the tags. Still, I mess up.

I was on the list when the last vote was taken on subject tags. I can't
remember how I voted, but I know I wasn't terribly concerned either way. As
time passed, I came to appreciated the tags and wish people would use them
more.

The list has more than doubled since I joined and my time for the list has
decreased. It would be impossible for me to read everything that is posted.
I use the subject tags to screen subjects that don't concern me. But,
sometimes, I miss interesting discussions or comments because they don't
follow the thread mentioned in the subject line.

A final thought. In three and a half years, I've never considered quitting
the list because John reminded me of the tags. What's caused me to consider
leaving the list, on several occasions, was fighting and bickering.
Sometimes it was what I considered to be unwarranted personal attacks on
things I said, and at times it was fighting among other list members. Words
on paper (bandwidth) take on a life of their own.

Betty Wilkerson Zone 7 south-central Kentucky just my opinion, folks. There
are hundreds more around here. Well, it's quit raining and I'm going out to
pot up some more seedlings.
