I am not having any hole problems, just broken off pods with tooth marks. Those pesky squirrels must think they are something good to eat. Of course they think bird feeders are good to eat. It is not bad enough to have to fight rain 4 out of 7 days.
My first year try at making crosses I was crossing anything that was blooming. I had about 50 pods. I ended up with 2. It was a wet time and I did not know I had to stripp all the leaves off the stalk. They hold water and will cause the stalk to rot. Even doing that this year I have lost several to rot.
I have thought about shooting the squirrels with my pellet rifle. I only have about 175 pellets. That would not make a very big dent in the squirrel population around here
