Re: REB: looking better

Hi John,
Isn't Elegant Return nice! That said it will probably never make it to introduction, it doesn't increase well enough. Plenty of really good rebloomers in the chute that are just as nice as any oncer though. Just a matter of time before intro. This years' Recurring Glory is a wide, heavily ruffled rebloomer about 10 steps up from Autumn Thunder. Last years Return Of Innocence is as nice as any oncer in that color class, (nicer than most) so rebloomers are definately on the upswing here as well as in other areas around the country, just got to get some of the newer ones. I will post a good picture of Recurring Glory to iris photos.

Bill Burleson said "Rebloomers do have a ways to go in catching
todays modern introductions as a group. All irises are beautiful (aparently
this is arguable). So, our delimma is plant them and have bloom later in the
year or don't plant and do without bloom.

Generally, I agree. I love those modern ruffled wonders with heavy
substance. As a class, rebloomers are not lacking in vigor, branching, or
bud count. I have many Byers iris which admittedly run a tick behind their
"oncer" competition in overall flower form. A number of Sutton intros seem
to be an improvement, as good as many "oncer" intros though the form and
ruffles may not match the very best. I happen to like Ghio stuff the best,
and now he is beginning to introduce rebloomers in his gorgeous lines
(DOUBLE DRIBBLE!!! and others); so the two sides are beginning to converge.
I would never throw out a beautiful "oncer", but most of us would probably
prefer rebloomers if our weather permits. I still can't believe that Double
Dribble is already sending up stalks for the third time this year, on a
second year clump, and nowhere near bloomout.

Waiting for that Sutton intro ELEGANT RETURN to come out (2003?).
