Al,
Rick Tasco does use clear plastic, it is a thick mil plastic that
does not disintegrate during the summer. I believe he leaves
an air layer between soil and plastic, he has his drip system
in place before the rows are covered.
They want the sun to shine through so that the weed seeds sprout
and then get cooked.
