Dear Char, You asked about Lady Claire - since Joan is a good friend, I
thought I would answer and give a little background. Joan's Friendship Garden was
on tour for the National in '01(?) I think that was the year for York, PA.
Claire Barr was a very good friend of mine and I knew she was coming to the
convention. Joan wanted her to see and hopefully approve of the iris that she
wanted to name for her,. That happened! Claire loved the iris and it was
beautiful that year, and everyone wanted it, UInfortunately, Joan did not have
enuf plants, plus the borers took heavy toll and she had to keep the few
shreds she salvaged. And when I say "shreds", I mean bits and pieces that would
normally be thrown out as hopeless - BUT, Joan can do wonders with shreds, and
:Lady Claire evidently has a determination to live and Joan was able to
replant several rz last year, and they are thriving, Those who have seen it this
year are enthusiastic and want it but it is withheld until next year,(and what
a terrible year this has been and still is with rains) and she hopes its will
to live will discourage the borers. I just talked to Joan and she pointed
out that no one can guarantee how well an iris will bloom elsewhere.
Hope this sort of answers your question - it is not on sale this year, look
for her catalog next year-- Even I don' t have it! ! ! And I usually have
whatever Joan produces since I look upon her as my surrogate daughter, so you
see we are pretty close. Hope this sort of answers your question! Rosalie nr
