OT: late-late bloomers and rebloom

Hi all,

There are a few Irises in my yard, that despite the constant wind and other
oddities in the weather this year, some Iris just keep opening a few buds I
didn't know were there. 'Liason' opened a last flower yesterday on a broken
off stalk (must have missed it when I cut all the others off). This makes a
full eight weeks from first to last flower on this plant (no rebloom involved
either). The broken off stub of a stalk on 'Missouri', which I thought only
had one bud when the flower opened a while back, has opened a surprise flower
today. 'Broadway Star' is always one of the latest, but rarely makes it to
June. It made dozens of flowers this year, but they don't stand up to the
wind well (they are sort of floppy). 'Broadway Star' has two flowers still
open today (probably the last, but there may be a couple more buds hiding in
there). The short stalk that was still growing when the wind storm hit a few
weeks back, and miraculously survived intact, is now in flower (last but to
open probably tomorrow). It is 'Evolution'. The rest of the Iris are all
long since done now. Most of the seed pods on the Beardeds and even on the
Spurias are nearly ripe (seeds inside are starting to color).

On to rebloomers. 'Frequent' Flyer put on a brief but impressive show in
early April. The first of the second crop of stalks first became visible
Thursday last week. Today some are at 12 inches! Should be flowers there in
a week or two I suspect. This may turn out to be a better rebloomer than
Eleanor Roosevelt (which I haven't noticed any rebloom stalks on yet, though
they may be coming). I like the foliage on 'Frequent Flyer' too, a bit
bluish, healthy-looking, a bit of a twist or wave to the sturdy fans, etc.

It's windy right now (so, what's new?), at about 45 mph, and still hot at 7:30
PM, about 87F; there are storm clouds off to the south, but I doubt it'll rain
here, hardly ever does). We did get some Sunday before last, about half an
inch, first since March I think (hard to remember).

Hey, here's a trick. I've got 'Fortissimo' Daffodils in flower right now. I
forgot I bought them, and stumbled onto them in a bag and planted them in late
March (when the others outside were in flower). They're in among some
Floribunda roses; looks nice!
