I've done it in a specialized way. I planted them green into pots and then
kept the pots in the fridge until fall. Last year the green seeds planted
were nearly all the seeds I planted that germinated. This year the success
rate was not as high, but some pods had very good germination. However, the
seeds from last year, whether they were the green seeds or those dried and
planted in the fall had some good germination the second year. There were a
lot of pots planted either way that didn't have any germination, though. I
had multiple pods of the the same crosses, but there wasn't any consistent
pattern on whether the green planted seeds worked better or not. Certainly
some of them waited the extra year to germinate as did the dried seeds.
They didn't seem to rot. I don't plant directly in the ground either way,
so I don't know if that would change the results.
