The Mio Irisarians had our 59th annual Iris Show in Mio, Michigan, this past Sunday, June 8, 2003. A total of 20 exhibitors brought 96 varieties of iris. Mostly dominant at our show this year were Standard Dwarf Bearded Iris, Intermediate Iris, and some Historic Iris (entered in the TB section). It was an unusually small year, due to the persistent cold weather this spring.
Our Artistic Theme this year was "Memories Through Songs." There were 19 different arrangements in 8 catagories, along with 5 Arts and Crafts entries. Songs and iris used were:
Sail Along Silvery Moon
White iris with nautical items.
Tie A Yellow Ribbon 'Round The Old Oak Tree
Yellow iris with wooden items.
Mood Indigo
Black, Burple, or Dark Blue iris with lanterns and/or candles.
Ruby Don't Take Your Love To Town
Red or Pink iris with hearts and/or lace
Blue Velvet
Blue iris with fabric and/or costume jewelry
Tangerine
Orange Iris with citrus fruit and/or tropical looking foliage
Autumn Leaves
Arrangers choice - any color iris, any prop suggesting autumn
Petite Fleur
Mini arrangement, maximum size 12"x12"x12"
Any color iris, any accrssory.
