Hi Mickey,
I'll fill in mine: Janet Natale...Myrtle Beach, SC. Mom of three
girls who I HOPE
will someday be as crazy about iris as I AM. Husband Bob grew up in a
city (Philadelphia) so he pretty much leaves the yard to me (yahoo!).
Currently growing around 200 cultivars here in zone 8, borderline zone 7 some years.
I have TB's, IB's, some SDB's that manage to bloom without much in the way
of freezing weather, one or two MTB's but they struggle here...and several
AB's that do pretty well. Unguicularis blooms in winter here, and reticulatas
have to be replanted every year...the bulbs also need more winter than we get.
MDB iris are pretty much hopeless this far south, except I understand some
folks have pretty good luck with DITTO. Member of AIS, TBIS, MIS and now
Arilbred Society and doggone it gotta send in mymembership to HIPS(Historic Iris
Preservation Society) because I have more of them now and I hear such great
things about their publication, ROOTS.
I dont' get to go to shows because my kids are young still and hard to leave
them..and too young to bring. Nearest Iris Club is a couple hours drive away
at least.
Our soil here is pretty much very sandy, sandy loam in a few spots but
needs organic matter added...this is a great list for all sorts of info. I
hope you enjoy it!
Janet Natale
zone 8 of SC
