I too will use saved pollen. I also have some overlap of season. There are about 10-20 SDBs  struggling along with occasional bloom at this time when TBs are near peak. Of course there also is Forever Blue which doesn't know when to quite.
This year I grew some TBs in the cold greenhouse and they bloomed with the SDBs so got some pods in the greenhouse as well as some in the garden including a pod on a MDB plic pollinated with Ziggy. (yea!!) 
All SDB X TB & TB X SDB are IBs. Direction doesn't make a difference. Problem is a lot of large flowers and a number of plants with low bud count. I have a lovely IB from Ruby Eruption X TB seedling that is a black red, almost solid, on yellow ground with exquisit form and propper size but never more then 4 buds. arrrrrh!
