Walter, I managed to make some crosses both directions this spring.
First time I've intentionally made TB/SDB crosses.  I was so taken with
that multicolored, spotted SDB BEING BUSY lookalike seedling that I
couldn't resist daubing some pollen.

Unfortunately, I didn't learn until this spring that my technique for
storing pollen from the spring before wasn't adequate to keep it
viable.  So most of the attempted crosses didn't take.

Fortunately, I had collected pollen from rebloomers last fall & got a
couple of pods from MATRIX (which rotted before they came close to
maturing) and a couple of pods from a not very exciting plicata
seedling.  Those are the two that made 11 and 5 seeds each.

The pollen from the SDB seedling was prolific and fertile, plus it
stored well.  Just about everything I tried it on produced or attempted
to produce a pod.  One of those rotted off last week - it had a lot more
seeds than those with the SDB parent - 30 normal looking seeds that are
probably mature enough to make it and another half dozen or so that were
sort of shriveled.  The last pod I got from this pollen was two weeks
old, dried at room temperature for a couple of days, then refrigerated.
It may have been good longer, but I quit using it.
