Re: CULT: Variegated foliage

I am very fortunate. Today I went to look at a scanner a lady had for sale.
I noticed she had lots of iris in her garden. I asked if she had any
variegated (leafed) and she said she did. She showed them to me and said
they were a delicate purple when they bloomed and lightly scented, they were
multiplying like mad. She is going to save me a clump and she has the proper
name for them. I didn't buy the scanner but we are going to work a trade
with Iris in August. It made my entire day.
She had a marvellous stand of them. I am getting very bold where iris are
concerned but I was prepared to beg, need be.. Enlarging the main garden to
make way for them (the Variegated ones). I also sent for a catalogue today
from Mr. Chapman in Ontario. I can see iris dominating my life (along with
the dogs).
I am so appreciative of all the advice offered for a total novice. I am
listening. I have let a few seed heads ripen just for the experience of
growing some from seed. I love a challenge.

: Hi Moira,
:
: I would be suspicious of potted variegated irises being sold by nurseries.
